These drivers who had been caught under four police station limits were brought before the Court and the judge ordered them to collect waste from the beach. Going ahead, the police took them to RK Beach for the clean-up campaign.
The police told the media that the unique punishment was given to bring about a behavioural change among the accused. These drivers were caught at different police station limits during a special drive against drunk driving in the last three days.
Arifullah, Additional DCP (Traffic) said that at least 60 drunk driving cases were registered on an average in the city. In the past, errant drivers were made to hold placards at the traffic junctions to raise awareness on traffic regulations as part of the community service.
