Watch: Cheetah running at 70 mph to catch its prey

A video showing a Cheetah, the fastest land animal in the world, sprinting with huge strides at an awesome speed to catch its prey in the wild.

The video was posted by a page named Fascinate on Twitter with the caption: “While running, cheetahs cover up to 22 feet per stride reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.”

Cheetahs mainly prey on small antelopes such as  gazelles and impalas, although they will also hunt small mammals and birds. When a cheetah hunts, it gets as close as possible to its prey before trying to outrun it with a burst of speed. The cheetah then uses its paw to swipe the animal to the ground and suffocates it with a bite to the neck.

Unlike most other big cats, cheetahs prefer to hunt during the day, particularly early morning or early evening.

On 17 September 2022, 8 cheetahs arrived in India after 70 years from Namibia.  They were released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park as part of the programme to reintroduce the big cat  in India. Out of the 8 cheetahs, 5 are female and 3 are male. The cheetahs are doing well in their new habitat and visitors are likely to be allowed to watch them from next month.
