WATCH: A deep sea diver plays with an Octopus

The video the diver stretches out his hand towards the tiny octopus and it rushes towards it. The octopus keeps butting its head against the palm of the diver’s hand and finally realising that it can’t make any headway it is retreating. At this point the diver gently nudges one of its tentacles and the octopus turns back to curl around his hand. The diver then lovingly caresses its head much like a pet dog or cat!

Experts are of the view that the curling around the hand by the Octopus is the equivalent of a hug.

Octopuses are playful, resourceful, and inquisitive. Some species cuddle with one another, while others have been known to bond with humans. They are among the most highly evolved invertebrates and are considered by many biologists to be very intelligent. Octopuses are also well-known masters of camouflage and can change colours to merge with the environment.

Scientists had long thought that this many-armed creature of the deep was strictly solitary and didn't interact much with its fellows. But new studies reveal that both male and female octopuses frequently communicate with each other in challenging displays that include posturing and changing colour, according to Live Science.
