India’s star batter Virat Kohli scored his 46th ODI century in the third match of the series against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum on Sunday and in the process broke cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record.
Kohli now holds the record for the most ODI centuries on home soil after his 21st ton today. He had equalled Tendulkar’s record when he smashed his 20th century at home in the first match of the series against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
In fact, Kohli has done one better as he scored his 20th ODI hundred in 99 innings, while Sachin had achieved the same feat in 160 innings.
Kohli has also surpassed Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds against a single team. Both Tendulkar and Kohli stood joint-top with 9 centuries each to their name against a single nation. Kohli now has 10 centuries against Sri Lanka.
Virat has also scored 9 centuries against West Indies while Tendulkar has scored as many hundreds against Australia.
Kohli has also become the 5th highest scoring batter in the ODI format, dislodging Mahela Jayawardene who has a tally of 12,650 runs to his name for Sri Lanka in ODIs.
