Virat Kohli fined 10% of match fee after IPL match

Former India captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore star batter Virat Kohli was fined 10 per cent of his match fees after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings played at Bengaluru on Monday.

The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) advisory on the issue states: “Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.”

“Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” the advisory added.

Although the specific reason for the fine was not mentioned, it appears that Virat  Kohli’s rowdy celebration after the dismissal of CSK batter Shivam Dube, who played an impressive knock of 52 from 26 balls, was considered to be a breach of the code of conduct.

A similar fine was also slapped on Mumbai Indians bowler Hrithik Shokeen after his unruly celebrations and confrontation with Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana.
