The floods in Kerala has led to considerable loss of property and life in the State and people on the social media realised the gravity of the calamity when a video of a house collapse in the State went viral.
The house which created a stir among the netizens got washed away in Kottayam’s Mundakayam by strong river water currents on October 17 (Sunday).
On viewing the clip one can see how within the blink of an eyelid the house vanishes in the gushing water with heavy rain falling down. Fortunately, the inhabitants of the house had already left before its collapse.
The death toll in the endless rain due to flash floods and landslides has risen to 22 on Sunday. Twenty two bodies from rain-hit areas — 13 from the Kottayam district and nine from Idukki – have been recovered. The National Disaster Relief Force teams are spread out in the State in conducting and continuing search and rescue operations.
These casualties which had taken place on Saturday had taken place due to flash floods and landslides in the both Kottayam and Idukki districts’ hilly areas, following heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. While discussing the situation arising due to the incessant rains, the PM expressed his condolences to the families of the bereaved and assured people in the State that the authorities are working to assist the injured and affected.

In a Tweet PM wrote: "Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @vijayanpinarayi and discussed the situation in the wake of heavy rains and landslides in Kerala. Authorities are working on the ground to assist the injured and affected.”
In Thiruvananthapuram, in another incident of house collapse, six people were rescued.
