Vijayawada Book Festival draws children in droves

The 33rd edition of Vijayawada Book festival was a mega hit among the people of the city, especially the children. Belonging to different schools and classes, the kids thronged in large numbers to see and buy books.

Among the stalls, those selling comics and story books grabbed maximum attention of the kids. The outlet of Chandamama, the popular children’s magazine, was full of eager children going through their publications. The magazine is published in several languages including English and Telugu.

Students were also thrilled to see books on general knowledge, science fiction, puzzles and handwriting. Many children were able to identify books which had been taught to them at their schools.

The 11-day book festival will finish on February 19

Going from one stall to another, kids generally favoured comics, stories on Akbar and Birbal, colouring, activity and puzzle books. Interestingly, many students were keen on checking and purchasing history books, especially those on India.

Stall owners were happy to see children in large numbers coming for the festival along with their parents and teachers. The increased footfalls ensured more publicity for their publications as well as better sales.

The 11-day festival which started on February 9 was inaugurated by Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and will finish on February 19. Open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. the festival has been organised by the Vijayawada Book Festival Society.
