United Kingdom police to use Mahindra e-autos as patrol vehicles to fight crime

Autorickshaws are going places and now e-autos made in India are going to be part of the law-enforcement agency in the United Kingdom. Yes, Gwent, a county located in south east Wales, has decided to use four Mahindra Treo electric three-wheelers to fight crime.

These will be used in Newport and Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire and as per reports these vehicles will be used to patrol parks, walkways and elsewhere.

The top speed of these vehicles is 55 kilometres per hour.

As per Gwent Police these autos will be used as “safe spaces” where crimes can be reported, help sought and crime prevention advice given.

Sharing details, the Chief Inspector Damian Sowrey told BBC: “They were on show at our Behind the Badge day, giving local residents the opportunity to see them up close and to hear more about how they will be used. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with parents telling officers that they would feel safer knowing that there was support for young people out at night, and from women who could think of an occasion when the tuk-tuk would have been a welcome sight.”

Besides this, it was also reported that these vehicles described as “novelty” could be used by “community safety guardians” who by driving in them can “deliver high visibility reassurance patrols within the city centre to make residents and visitors feel safer when walking around the city.”
