The TV and Digital rights package of the lucrative Indian Premier League’s (IPL) next five-year cycle from 2023 to 2027 has been sold for a phenomenal Rs 43,255 crore in the e-auction on Monday which is more than twice the amount for the last five-year cycle.

According to sources, the package for A and B went up to at Rs 43,255 crore comprising Rs 23,575 crore for the TV final bid and Rs 19,680 for the Digital segment. This works out to a whopping Rs 57.5 crore per game for the TV segment and Rs 48 per game for the Digital.

However, the BCCI will take time to announce the winner of the TV and Digital rights as the bidding for Packages B (incremental), Packages C and D is yet to go on.

Star India had edged out Sony Pictures to secure the Indian Premier League's media rights for the 2017-2022 cycle with a bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore in September 2017.

According to reports the four bidders that are contesting for the IPL’s media rights are DisneyStar, Sony Pictures Networks India, Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Viacom18.

US tech giant had initially shown an interest in entering the race for the IPL package but had later decided not to go ahead.
