Timely intervention by Kolkata Traffic cop saves life of critically-ill patient

Even though his duty is to direct the traffic to ensure that it is a smooth affair, Sergeant Snehasish Mukherjee of Kolkata Police went beyond his call of duty, as he took it upon himself to escort a doctor who was urgently required at the operation theatre.

Working as an East Traffic guard, Mukherjee was directing traffic at Park Circus when he received a call asking him to help a woman who was stranded at a restaurant located nearby. He immediately reached the spot and found that one Dr. Mita Bhattacharya, a resident of Raipur was stranded at Park Street as her scooter had broken down. The reason why she required help was that she had to attend to the operation of a critically ill patient who was awaiting surgery. On being informed about her situation, her colleagues asked for help from the Lalbazar police station.

The Control Room at the Lalbazar station swung into action and passed the information to Mukherjee to take appropriate steps. For the doctor the cop was a saviour as he immediately helped her to negotiate the traffic and reach the hospital where she rushed to the operation theatre for the critical operation.
