Telangana sets up its first toy park inspired by age old tradition

Keeping in mind the global market for toys and India’s dependence on China to supply these products for local market, the Telangana Government has set up its first toy park.

This park which is located at Dandu Malkapur in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district will have world-class facilities and infrastructure to manufacture gadgets, dolls, entertainers and all those products and objects that are required for entertaining the children.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been exhorting toy manufacturers at different forums to use eco-friendly materials to make products and become self-reliant in this sector. He also pitched for promotion of local artisans while also bringing in IT professionals and start-ups to encourage innovation and boost production for Indian and global markets.

The Telangana Toy Park will encourage production of all types of toys including STEM learning toys that are used for learning purposes, soft, electronic, plastic, silicone, eco-friendly and non-toxic toys.

Apart from this the Park will promote manufacture of wooden and local toys which will enable regional artisans; crafts persons and youth to get employment while keeping the old art and traditions of toy-making alive. These artisans will be provided incentives too to make these toys.

Going beyond manufacturing the Park will have a toy museum, common facility centre, research and development facility, skill development centre and children’s amusement park facility. It will also have the facility of plug-and-play.

While 5 acres of land has already been allotted in the MSME Park for manufacture of toys, letters of intent have been given to 16 prospective entrepreneurs.

The latest data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry shows that exports in last 9 years from the toy industry have increased more than 4 times. It was US $36.91 million in 2013-14 and in 2022-23 it is US $153.88 million.

The Indian toy industry according to a market research report is expected to grow to US $3 billion by 2028.
