With the Statue of Unity located at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat, attracting tourists from India and abroad in droves, the Western Railway has decided to provide another attraction for the visitors. The Indian Railways now has decided to develop an art gallery at Ekta Nagar Kevadiya Railway Station, which is green-energy certified.

Talking to the media, WR Chief Public Relations Officer, Sumit Thakur said: “Now tourists visiting the Statue of Unity from not just the country but from across the world will be able to take a peek at the rich cultural history of Gujarat at Kevadiya railway station.”

This contract for this first-of-its-kind art gallery will be made under public-private partnership mode.

Providing details, Thakur added: “Working on the PPP mode, the art gallery will showcase different arts and crafts primarily of Gujarat and other states. The art gallery will be developed and operated privately giving an earning of Rs 24.7 lakh to the Railways for the next 10 years.”

Besides the gallery, there will also be a souvenir shop to enable visitors to buy items of art that will remind them of their visit to the Statue of Unity and Kevadiya.

The gallery and the souvenir shop will help the local tribal population, artists and artisans as they will get an opportunity to not just display their craft but also sell their artworks.
