Specially-abled from across India showcase their products at Divya Kala Mela in Guwahati

The specially-abled people may suffer from one or other form of physical disability but many of them are artists and entrepreneurs in their own right. What they need is a platform to showcase their talent and ability and that is what the ongoing Divya Kala Mela at Guwahati’s Maniram Dewan Trade Centre is doing.

The mela which started on May 11. will end on 17th will showcase vibrant, colourful and aesthetically designed handicrafts, products, embroidery work and handlooms. These include home décor objects, clothing, garments, stationery, jewellery, personal accessories, clutch bags, toys and gift items.

For those who relish food, there are several options in packaged as well as ready to eat dishes.

What makes the products and food being offered is that they are diverse and from different parts of the country.

This initiative has been organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and this mela is the fourth in the series. The earlier ones were organised in Delhi (December 2022), Mumbai (February 2023) and Bhopal (March 2023).

In this edition, 100 Divyang artisans/artists and industrialists from 22 States/UTs are showcasing their products and skills.

The visitors to the Mela can also enjoy an array of diverse cultural activities, including performances by specially-abled and professionals.

In 2023-24, this event will be held in 12 cities starting with Guwahati.
