Soccer superstar Messi seals $41 million a year deal with PSG, eyes Champions League win

World soccer superstar Lionel Messi said on Wednesday he is "dreaming" of winning a fifth Champions League after signing a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Messi is set to earn approximately 35 million euros ($41m) a year net, Associated Press news agency reported, citing sources in the know of the deal.

"I have said my dream is to win another Champions League and I think I'm in the ideal place to have that chance and to do it," he said at the function to announce his formally joining PSG.

The 34-year-old claimed the last of his European titles with former side Barcelona in 2015, while the Qatar-owned Parisians are yet to clinch the continent's elite club competition.

Messi was a free agent after leaving boyhood side Barca at the weekend because of their financial predicament.

Police had a difficult time controlling the huge rush of fans at the airport as they lunged forward to get a better view. He then travelled into Paris with a police escort that included several black-clad officers on motorbikes.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside the Parc des Princes on Wednesday with supporters queueing near the club shop on the Champs Elyseees to buy Messi shirts.

Messi will wear the number 30, as revealed in a video by the club, the number he had when he began his professional career at Barcelona between 2004-2006.
