Six-foot-long snake shocks Srinagar residents

What seemed to be like any other normal day for a family residing in Srinagar turned out to be quite unusual as they found a 6-foot-long Himalayan Trinket snake in their house.

The household located in Buchwara in the Zabarwan Forest Range were worried about their safety and immediately alerted the Wildlife SOS 24×7 rescue helpline.

The NGO’s Rapid Response Unit on reaching the house found this non-venomous snake hidden in the thick foliage of the backyard lawn. Equipped with the necessary rescue equipment, they safely extricated the reptile from the lawn.

The animal is currently under observation and will be released back into the wild once declared fit.

Talking to the media, Aaliya Mir, Programme Head Wildlife SOS said: “The residents of the household were quite shocked to find such a large snake in their garden. But our timely arrival and assistance gave them assurance. We are glad that they informed us in time and we were ultimately able to rescue the snake unharmed.”

Found in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, northern West Bengal, Sikkim and Meghalaya this is a non-venomous snake species which has not been assessed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
