Rs 72 lakh stolen from singer Sonu Nigam’s father’s home, driver booked

Mumbai police have filed a case against the driver of popular singer Sonu Nigam’s father for allegedly stealing Rs 72 lakh from his employer’s residence.

The singer’s 76-year-old father Agamkumar Nigam lives at Windsor Grand building in Oshiwara, Andheri west, and the theft took place between March 19 and March 20, according to the local police.

According to the police complaint, Agamkumar Nigam had sacked his driver named Rehan after 8 months as he was not doing his job properly, an official said.

On Sunday afternoon, he visited his daughter Nikita’s home in the Versova area for lunch and returned after some time. In the evening, he called his daughter to inform her that Rs 40 lakh was missing from a digital locker kept in a wooden cupboard.

The next day, Agamkumar Nigam went to his son’s home at 7 Bungalows for some visa-related work and returned in the evening. He found another Rs  32 lakh missing from the locker, which was not damaged.

“Agam Kumar Nigam and Nikita checked the CCTV footage of their society in which their driver, Rehaan, was seen carrying the bag towards his flat on both days,” the officer added.

Police said that a manhunt had been launched to nab Rehan.
