Rs 1 crore each for Punjab players in the bronze medal winning hockey team in Tokyo

<p>
<strong>The Punjab government today announced that it will give a cash prize of Rs 1 crore each to players from the state who are part of the Indian men's hockey team which won a historic bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday. The team led by Manpreet Singh beat Germany 5-4 to claim its first medal in the men's hockey competition since Moscow 1980 Games.</strong></p>
<p>
After the triumph in Tokyo, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi announced the state government's decision to reward the players.</p>

"On this historic day for Indian hockey, I am delighted to announce a cash award of Rs 1 crore each to players from Punjab. We await your return to celebrate the much deserving medal in Olympics," Sodhi tweeted.</p>

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had on July 22 also announced cash awards to the medal winners at the Tokyo Games with the gold medallists getting Rs 75 lakh, those winning silver getting Rs 40 lakh and Rs 25 lakh set for the bronze medal winners. </p>

Several states had also announced cash awards for their medal winners in Tokyo.</p>

<p>
The Uttar Pradesh government had announced Rs 6 crore (individual) and Rs 3 crore (team event) for the gold medal winners, Rs 4 crore (individual) and Rs 2 crore (team) for silver medallists and Rs 2 crore (individual) and Rs 1 crore (team) for the bronze medal winners, respectively.</p>

Odisha and Haryana government too had announced similar cash awards for the sportspersons from the states who make it to the Olympic podium. </p>
