Rain and hail in Delhi bring respite from scorching heat

<p>
A spell of hail and rain accompanied with strong winds in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon brought a welcome respite from the scorching heat.</p>
<p>
People in the west Delhi colonies of Rohini, Pitampura and Paschim Vihar reported hailstorms at around 2 pm along with rain and strong winds which then spread to  South Delhi as well a couple of hours later.</p>

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert, warning of a dust storm, thunderstorm or hail storm with winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour in Delhi. the national capital.</p>
<p>
As a result of a western disturbance affecting northwest India, a cloudy sky is predicted over the capital for the next three days, the IMD had said.</p>

The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's base station, is likely to settle around 38 degrees Celsius.</p>
<p>
Delhi-NCR had been reeling from temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius in recent weeks with the second hottest April in 72 years.</p>
