PV Sindhu defeats China’s Wang Yi to win Singapore Open 2022 crown

India's PV Sindhu defeated China's Wang Zhi Yi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 in the finals to win the Singapore Open 2022 badminton championship.</p>
<p>
The two-time Olympic medallist was at her aggressive best as she scored an emphatic win in the first game. The Chinese player bounced back in the second game to stretch the match into the decider. However, Sindhu came back strongly in the third game to defeat Wang Zhi to clinch her  maiden 500 title of the year 2022.</p>
<p>
Wang Zhi Yi put up a strong fight ought till the end but Sindhu held on to her early lead to sail through with the title.</p>

Earlier, Sindhu had defeated Saena Kawakami of Japan 21-15, 21-7 in a 32-minute semi-final match to enter the summit clash.</p>
<p>
The Singapore Open 2022 is Sindhu's third title of the 2022 season after winning the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open BWF Super 300 titles.</p>
<p>
Sindhu is now the second Indian women's badminton player and third Indian to bring home the Singapore Open title. Saina Nehwal (2010) and B Sai Praneeth (2017) have won the title in women's and men's singles events respectively.</p>
