Pune’s Frail Ratan Refuses To Beg And Instead Sells Pens

Making an honest living is a quality which is appreciated by everyone. What is more and more important is that such heart-warming stories inspire others like the one which is doing rounds in social media about a woman named Ratan selling pens in Pune without seeking alms!

Ratan’s story was shared by Shikha Rathi, an entrepreneur and founder of ReUp Studio. She shared her experience with others through her post about this frail old woman, Ratan whom she met while out on Pune’s MG Road with a friend.

Going round the busy road, Rathi found Ratan selling colourful pens from a collection which were kept on a cardboard box she was carrying around. Well, one would say there is nothing unusual about this. Yes, there is. There was a note also placed on the box which said: “I do not want to beg. Please buy Rs.10/- blue colour pens. Thank you. Bless You.”

On seeing her and the note, Rathi was impressed and later wrote in her Instagram about her. “Today I met a real life hero and champion- Ratan! I had gone out with a friend when we met Ratan. When we read her note, my friend immediately made a purchase. Ratan was overjoyed and we could see gratitude and kindness in her eyes! She thanked us and didn't even push us further to purchase more pens from her! Her integrity along with her sweet smile, kind heart and her joyful attitude made me purchase more pens from her! Just seeing her smile and gratitude has filled my heart. And she deserves to be celebrated and shared, so hence the post!!”

She went on to add a postscript stating: “P.S. If you'll are in MG road, Pune I would really like to encourage you'll to interact and buy the pens from her! It will definitely bring a smile to your face!”

What really impressed Rathi was that Ratan despite her need for money did not try to push her to buy more pens and was fine when she bought just one. Impressed by her integrity, Rathi bought several more pens from her and helped bring a wide smile to Ratan’s face.

Her post evoked positive and encouraging response as many called it beautiful while others said they will definitely meet Ratan when they visit MG Road and also buy pens.
