Pan India programme ‘Mera Mati Mera Desh’ to honour country’s bravehearts to enter its second phase

The national campaign, ‘Mera Mati Mera Desh’ – a unified celebration of India’s soil and valour, commemorating the nation’s journey of freedom and progress, is set to enter its second phase. Under the second phase, Amrit Kalash Yatras have been planned across the country.

As a pan India outreach campaign, the programme is aimed at touching every household of the country.

Soil and rice grains are being collected from over six lakh villages in rural areas and from wards in urban areas across India. It’s expected that more than 8500 pots will arrive in Delhi by the end of October for the final program. The soil collected from all corners of India will be placed in the Amrit Vatika and Amrit Memorial, creating a legacy to commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

As part of the first phase of the campaign, more than 2.33 lakh memorials or shilaphalakams with names of freedom fighters, defense personnel, personnel of Central Armed Police Forces and State Police who laid down their lives in the line of duty, have already been built across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced this campaign during the broadcast of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. It was launched as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was on August 9.

According to an official statement, the programme has witnessed massive public participation. More than two lakh programmes have been organised as part of Mera Mati Mera Desh scheme.
