Niloofar Rahmani, Afghanistan’s first female pilot, says Taliban rule will “hurt women the most”

<strong>Without mincing any words or beating about the issue, Afghanistan’s first woman Air Force pilot, Niloofar Rahmani last week said that the Taliban who have taken over power in the country are bound to “hurt women the most”.</strong></p>
<p>
She told Fox & Friends: "Unfortunately, my family is still there. And since I have heard what happened in Afghanistan, I cannot sleep, I cannot get my mind together, I am so in fear for their security. And, of course, it hasn't been only about me.”</p>

The 29-year-old Rahmani, categorically stated that her "family and parents are in danger” and the reason why they are being targeted is because they had supported their daughter completely during her professional life.</p>

Rahmani left Afghanistan and escaped to the United States in 2015 while she had already attained fame and popularity as the first woman Afghan Air Force pilot in 2001. This was after the Taliban had fallen in the country.</p>

The militant group could never stomach her reputation and had been sending her "death threats since 2013”.</p>

Commenting about the recent utterances of the Taliban about respecting the rights of women, Rahmani said "she does not believe" these claims. "The world will be the witness of the Taliban. They are going to stone a woman in a Kabul stadium again for nothing."</p>

In his first address to the media, the Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid told the gathering that the group will honour women’s rights within Sharia law. According to the Associated Press news agency, Taliban have been encouraging women to return to work and girls to go back to school, where headscarves are being handed out.</p>
