Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Kalinga Art Gallery, plans world class museum in Odisha

<strong>The end of the year brings good news for art lovers and artists in Odisha and the country, as the State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Kalinga Art Gallery in Bhubaneswar and five regional art galleries in the different districts.</strong></p>
<p>
Besides the inauguration, it was also announced that a world class museum complex will come up in Odisha.</p>
<p>
While the State’s largest art gallery – the Kalinga Art Gallery – is located in the premises of the State Museum, the regional art galleries have been set up in Chhatrapur (Ganjam), Puri, Balasore, Sambalpur and Koraput.</p>

The Chief Minister, while attending the function for inauguration in virtual mode, announced that a world class museum complex will soon come up in the State. He informed that he has directed the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture to develop a comprehensive master plan for this purpose, with facilities for history, art and culture.</p>

Patnaik said: “We have unique traditions of painting, architecture, sculpture and handicraft that reflects a long diverse cultural heritage. Art runs in our blood, is ingrained in our mind. We owe a responsibility to our artistic traditions and should do everything to protect, conserve and promote this unique tradition.”</p>

Referring to the Kalinga Art Gallery as a power house of art and artistes of the State Patnaik said it will be a confluence of artistes from different regions, including those of national and international repute. He added that the KAG will help art loving citizens and tourists to learn about the artistic traditions.</p>

The galleries at the regional level, the CM said, will encourage the local artistes to display their artistic creativity and promote local art forms. The will also be a focal point of interaction among the young and budding artistes, thereby enabling them to learn and evolve over time.</p>

As per an official, this move to establish these art galleries was taken by the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi.</p>
