The ancestral home of Sachin Dev Burman, music composer, which is located in Bangladesh’s Cumilla will be converted into a cultural complex soon. News agency PTI said that the Sheikh Hasina government has sanctioned Taka 1.10 crore (Rs 86 lakh) for the project.

Burman, father of Rahul Dev Burman is a legend not just in India but Bangladesh as well. “A darling to the people of Bangladesh for his renditions on timeless songs like Ami Takdhum Takdhum Bajai Bangladesher Dhol, Ke Jash Re, Mono Dilo Na Bondhu, Borne Gondhe, Shono Go Dokhin Hawa and many more Burman’s thin but powerful and accented voice distinguished him from his peers, and made him immortal,” Dhaka Tribune said.

He was born in Bangladesh and spent his initial years in Cumilla.

BD News earlier in a report said that the Burman’s birthplace popularly known as ‘Sachin Korta,’ was listed as a protected monument on November 30, 2017. The report also highlighted that despite the restoration exercise, the palatial house was in not in good condition due to negligence.

Dev Burman completed his schooling from Cumilla Zilla School and graduated from Victoria Government College in 1924,” Golam Faruk, an advocate and a historian, who edited a 596-page book on the musician told PTI.
