Music icon Elton John sings to raise awareness about vaccines, climate change

Elton John kicked off a 24-hour global music event to swing the spotlight on the world's most important issues–vaccines, climate and hunger.

Hundreds of artists, activists and advocacy organisations joined the musician to push for global change in a world brought to its knees by the coronavirus pandemic and an environmental crisis.

Joined by Korean band BTS and megastar Charlie Puth, John performed 'Rocketman,' 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Your Song' in front of the Eiffel Tower in a bright green suit, reported music magazine Rolling Stone.

Despite a hip injury, the 74-year-old star appeared on stag to flag off the show. "No one should be left behind", said John, to a hypnotised audience–many of whom joined the concert not just for the music but also for its global messaging on humanity.

Organisation Global Citizen wants to plant one billion trees, deliver two billion vaccines to poor countries and provide food to tens of millions of hungry people.

Timed with the UN General Assembly taking place in New York and the G20 climate meeting, the event had dozens of live performances from around the world.

Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder and Shawn Mendes too joined in. All of them joined in from different cities.

Hosting the event, Indian film star Priyanka Chopra, said: "There has never been a greater need for advocacy than right now".

Tickets for the concerts were provided on the basis of vaccination proofs.
