Music icon Elton John sings to raise awareness about vaccines, climate change

Elton John kicked off a 24-hour global music event to swing the spotlight on the world's most important issues–vaccines, climate and hunger.</p>
<p>
Hundreds of artists, activists and advocacy organisations joined the musician to push for global change in a world brought to its knees by <a href="https://www.indianarrative.com/world-news/people-protest-in-thailand-malaysia-as-covid-spreads-across-south-east-asia-103818.html">the coronavirus pandemic </a>and an <a href="https://www.indianarrative.com/health-news/who-identifies-air-pollution-as-the-biggest-risk-to-public-health-toughens-standards-116778.html">environmental crisis</a>.<br />

Joined by Korean band BTS and megastar Charlie Puth, John performed 'Rocketman,' 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Your Song' in front of the Eiffel Tower in a bright green suit, reported <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/elton-john-global-citizen-2021-1232408/">music magazine <em>Rolling Stone</em></a>.</p>
<p>
Despite a hip injury, the 74-year-old star appeared on stag to flag off the show. "No one should be left behind", said John, to a hypnotised audience–many of whom joined the concert not just for the music but also for its global messaging on humanity.</p>
<p>
Organisation Global Citizen wants to plant one billion trees, deliver two billion vaccines to poor countries and provide food to <a href="https://www.indianarrative.com/science-news/climate-change-could-force-migration-of-million-people-world-bank-114797.html">tens of millions of hungry people</a>.<br />
<br />
Timed with the UN General Assembly taking place in New York and the G20 climate meeting, the event had dozens of live performances from around the world.<br />
<br />
Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder and Shawn Mendes too joined in. All of them joined in from different cities.<br />
<br />
Hosting the event, Indian film star Priyanka Chopra, said: "There has never been a greater need for advocacy than right now".<br />
<br />
Tickets for the concerts were provided on the basis of vaccination proofs.</p>
