Manipur celebrates as first train head engine reaches Khongshang station

<p>
<strong>It was celebration time in Manipur as the first train head engine without passenger compartments reached the Khongshang railway station which has been constructed in Noney district on Monday.</strong></p>
<p>
The head engine covered 62 kilometres, travelled from Jiribam passing through Rani Gaidinliu (Kaimai) and Thingou railway stations to reach Khongshang.</p>
<p>
The arrival of the head engine was welcomed by villagers from Thingou and Khongshang with enthusiasm with the women performing traditional dances of the Rongmei tribe at the respective stations.</p>

N Biren Singh, the caretaker State Chief Minister shared the footage of the traditional Rongmei dance at Khongsang railway station in a tweet. He wrote: “In yet another milestone, happy to share that an engine has reached Khongsang Railway Station today Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji,the impetus given to improve connectivity in Manipur will immensely boost the economy of the state.”</p>
<p>
On January 27 the successful trial run of a goods train till Rani Gaidinliu railway station was conducted.</p>
<p>
Rani Gaidinliu Railways Station, which was earlier called the Kaimai Railway station, is part of the 111 km Imphal-Jiribam railway line project, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs. 14,322 crore.</p>
<p>
The ambitious railway project which is set to be completed by December next year, will have 11 stations covering five districts of Manipur from Jiribam and will connect Imphal with the broad gauge network of the country. The construction will entail 63 kilometres of tunnelling while the world’s tallest bridge pier with height of 141 metre is being constructed in Noney district as part of the Manipur railway project.</p>
