In a major security breach at world-famous Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala, sneaked in a mobile phone and shot a video of Ananda Nilayam and the inner precincts of the Vimana Prakaram and posted it on social media.
The Ananda Nilayam is the gold-plated dome which houses the sanctum sanctorum of the holy temple.
After the video went viral, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has launched an investigation into the incident as mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are not allowed into the temple premises.
There are multiple levels of checks that devotees have to pass through before reaching the inner precincts of the holy temple. There appears to have been lapse by those manning the vigilance security cover for the hill temple as the mobile phone sneaked past them.
TTD’s chief vigilance and security officer in a statement said that the video was recorded on Sunday night with a pen camera by a woman. The statement also said that an investigation has been launched and legal action will be taken against the miscreant.
Tirupati received heavy rainfall and lightning on Sunday, due to which power was interrupted for two hours. A devotee is suspected to have recorded a video during that time, the statement read.
The hill temple is one of the most heavily guarded in the country and TTD spends crores of rupees to update its security systems.
