Maharashtra villagers happy by uniting 4 leopard cubs with their mother

The residents of Kabadwadi village in Maharashtra’s Junnar division were thrilled and happy when four leopard cubs found in a sugarcane field were reunited with their mother. The operation of rescue and reuniting was carried out successfully by the Junnar Forest Department jointly with Wildlife SOS.</p>

With the harvesting of sugarcane going on, the farmers noticed these four cubs and, fully aware of the protocols to be followed during such incidents, they got in touch with JFD immediately. The forest officials rushed to the spot along with a team from Wildlife SOS’s Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre.</p>

Dr. Nikhil Bangar, the Wildlife SOS veterinary doctor identified the cubs as two females and two males who are about two months old. The cubs were taken to the Rescue Centre for medical examination and found to be in good health and fit to be reunited with their mother.</p>

To make sure that the cubs join their mother, the team waited patiently till night. The cubs were placed in a safe box and kept in the same location where they were found with camera traps set up to monitor to confirm successful reunion of the cubs with their mother.</p>

On arriving at the scene, the mother was relieved to find the cubs and carefully carried them to a safe location.</p>

The Junnar Range Forest Officer, Ajit Shinde said: “We are glad to see that people are becoming more sensitized towards the wildlife that share the surrounding habitats. Today, more and more people are reaching out to us for help when they encounter leopards and other wild animals in the area.”</p>
