The incident took place a river bridge between Titwala and Khadavali located 80 kilometres from Mumbai. The footage shows SALP Satish Kumar crawling under the Chhapra-bound Godan Express (11059), which was stuck on a river bridge, from a narrow gap between the wheel and other underbelly equipment to reset the alarm chain knob.

Shivaji Sutar, CR’s chief spokesperson, told the media that some passenger had pulled an alarm chain and stopped the train on Kalu river bridge.

He went on to add: “To restart the train, it was mandatory to reset the knob of the second last coach of the train, in which the alarm chain was pulled. Assessing the gravity of the situation, Mr. Kumar risked his life by crawling under the train over the river bridge to reset the alarm chain knob.” Risking his life, Kumar averted delays in trains and saved the time of many passengers.

Kumar’s bravery was praised by senior railway officials and passengers too. Meanwhile CR has appealed to people to avoid pulling the chain needlessly.
