Kerala to have floating bridges in 8 districts with beaches

With the first floating sea bridge set up in Kerala at Beypore beach becoming popular among the tourists, both local and those from outside, the State Tourism Department wants to replicate the model in eight other districts that have beaches.

According to the government sources, these nine districts in the State which have coastline have immense potential for the development of beach tourism. Apart from this there are plans to organise adventure sports with the aim to draw more tourists to these destinations.

To tap the popularity of surfing all over the world, Kerala also intends to set up a surfing school in Kozhikode and other districts of the State too. With people intending to learn surfing, staying at least for a month in the place where the training school is located, it will definitely give a boost to the economy and generate revenue for homestays and eating outlets.

Beypore beach’s floating bridge was built by Chalakudy Capture Days Adventure with the help of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the Ports Department and was inaugurated this year. It enables people to walk along with waves.

The bridge is 100 metre-long and 3 metres wide and is made of high-density polyethylene that floats in water. It is strengthened with 31 anchors weighing 100 kilograms.
