Karnataka film star Puneeth Rajkumar dies after massive heart attack, funeral with state honours tomorrow

<strong>Popular Kannada film star Puneeth Rajkumar passed away at the age of 46 following a massive heart attack on Friday.</strong></p>

Puneeth, son of Kannada cinema legend Rajkumar, is understood to have suffered a heart attack while working out at a gym. He was shifted to Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru. Dr Ranganath Nayak said that his condition was critical when he was brought to the hospital and despite the best efforts of the doctors he could not be saved.</p>

Puneeth’s health worsened on Thursday evening but he did not visit a doctor. He went to the gym in the morning where he developed a chest pain. He was taken to a private clinic where ECG was done. During the check-up, his condition worsened and he was rushed to Vikram Hospital, where he succumbed to the heart attack.</p>

Vikram hospital issued a statement saying: , “Mr. Puneet Rajkumar, aged 46 years was brought to Vikram Hospital on 29/10/21 with a diagnosis of heart attack with ECG done by a family doctor. At the time of arrival to the emergency, the patient was nonresponsive and was in cardiac asystole. Hence, immediate advanced cardiac life support measures were initiated for resuscitation. In spite of prolonged advanced and aggressive measures, the patient continued to be non-responsive and asystolic. The panel of medical experts extended all efforts to save him. He was declared dead at 2.30 pm on 29.10.2021.”</p>

Puneeth has donated his eyes. He is survived by wife Ashwini and daughters Vanditha and Dhruthi.</p>

Puneeth Rajkumar’s mortal remains are being taken to Bengaluru’s Kanteerava stadium, where fans can pay their last respects to the late actor.</p>

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “We will ensure that all arrangements are made. All will be able to pay their respects tomorrow. We will give him state honours. Last rites will be performed as per the family’s wishes."</p>

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the demise of the actor in a Twitter post:  "A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,"</p>
