Jaiswal, Ashwin shine as India crush West Indies

India defeated the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first test at Windsor Park in Roseau on Friday as Ravichandran Ashwin took seven wickets in a devastating spell that saw the hosts bowled out for a mere 130 runs in their second innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was declared player of the match after the 21-year-old left handed batter scored 171 in his debut test appearance.  India declared their innings on 421 for five.

The match was wrapped up in a mere three days with the West Indies batters

That left the West Indies trailing by 271 runs and Kraigg Brathwaite’s team never looked like forcing their visitors to bat again as Ashwin wreaked havoc. He had also claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

The second and final test in the series will be held in Port of Spain from July 20. This will be preceded by three one-day internationals and five Twenty20 matches.
