India’s only BIS-certified Tricolour making unit in Karnataka targets Rs.1.75 crore business by Aug 15

India’s only National Flag making unit that is certified by Bureau of Indian Standards and is located in Hubballi, Karnataka is buzzing with activity as it is aiming to do business of Rs.1.75 crore by the end of August 15, the Independence Day.

The unit this year too, like the last one, will earn more than Rs.1.5 crore after the announcement of the Union Government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign which was launched on the occasion of 75 years of independence.

Sharing details of the sales, officials of the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha, which looks after the Hubballi unit, informed that between April 2023 and July 2023, the unit has sold flags of various sizes worth Rs 1.10 crore. They said due to Har Ghar Tiranga campaign business had improved during the past two years.

The unit gets orders from all over India both during Republic Day and Independence Day. Moreover, the Tricolour which is flying at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Red Fort and Parliament are all made by this unit besides those atop Indian embassies in different countries.

With the Government making it compulsory for the gram panchayats and other government offices to use khadi flags, the demand has gone up further.

A majority of the workforce in this unit are women who prepare flags of varied sizes throughout the year. Their work includes stitching, ironing and packing the flags.
