India Post ready to deliver Karnataka mangoes at your doorstep!

Mango-lovers have reason to rejoice as Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited has tied up with India Post to deliver the tasty and delicious King of Fruits right at the doorstep. Without stepping out, one can enjoy the fruits in the comfort of the home!

Mangoes are cultivated on 1.68 lakh hectares in 16 districts of Karanataka, such as Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, and Ramanagara, making the State among the top growers in the country. Among the diverse varieties grown are Mallika, Badami, Malgova, Neelam, Alphonso, Kalapad, Malgova, Totapuri, and others.

The web portal launched for online sales and ordering is www.karsirimangoes.karnataka. gov.in. It was in 2020 during the Corona virus lockdowns that the State Government in collaboration with India Post started delivery of mangoes. Following the success of this initiative it was continued in 2021 too.

KSMDMCL’s managing director C.G. Nagaraju speaking to Indian Express said: “From the last two years both farmers and customers have benefited from this initiative. In 2020, a total of 100 tonnes of mango was supplied to 35 thousand customers across the state and in 2021, despite a lower yield, 79 tonnes of mango were sold to 45 thousand consumers. This shows the customers are interested in buying good quality mangoes from farmers online.”

The web portal provides the names and mobile numbers of farmers and the mango varieties they grow. Once the order is placed, the farmer receives a text message and the fruits are then sent to General Post Office, Bengaluru for onward delivery.
