Star shuttlers P V Sindhu and Lakshya Sen clinched gold in their respective badminton singles finals on a remarkable Monday afternoon for the Indian contingent at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
P V Sindhu won her first Commonwealth Games gold medal after defeating Canada's Michelle Li in straight games of the women's singles final.
Young sensation Lakshya Sen clinched the gold medal after making a solid comeback, winning 2-1 (19-21 21-9 21-16) against Malayasia's Tze Yong.
Sindhu beat Li 21-15, 21-13 to win her third CWG medal, another addition to her long list of monumental achievements. The 27-year-old had won a bronze at 2014 Glasgow Games and followed it up with a silver in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
This was also India's 19th gold medal in the current edition of the Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Sindhu, calling the phenomenal shuttler "a champion of champions".

Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani mentioned that this medal is all the more special as it marks India’s 200th Gold Medal in the history of CWG.
