With the aim of curbing pollution and providing greenery, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is adding new lung spaces to this historic city.
A new landscape park will be opened today at Gandipet which is on the banks of Osman Sagar. Besides this the foundation for one more park — Eco Park – will be laid. This is situated near Himayat Sagar lake at Kothwalguda.
These two eco-friendly parks are located near the two historical Nizam-era water bodies. For the park on the Osman Sagar bank spread over 18 acres, the Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 35.6 crore while for the one near Himayat Sagar spread across 125 acres, Rs.75 crore has been granted.
The attractions of the Gandipet park include an entrance plaza, an open-air theatre with a capacity of 1,200 seats, walkways, a flower terrace, two art pavilions, picnic spaces, gazebos, food courts and toilets. The ticket counter and guard room are located in the central pavilion.
Adding to the attraction of the place, the authorities have provided attractive illumination for the night view.
The Eco Park as per HMDA will have a 2.5-km long boardwalk, an aviary spread across six acres, a butterfly garden, an aquarium, an open-air theatre, a sensory park, aesthetic landscaping, pergolas and gazebos. It is also proposed to have luxury wooden cottages, camping tents besides a conference hall and infinity pool and food courts at four locations.
As the park is located on either side of the road, there will be a bridge to connect them.
