How Tamil Nadu’s fish traders helped family of deceased Jharkhand labourer

The goodness of the human heart can exhibit itself from unknown and unexpected quarters. An example of this came to the fore when fish traders in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur town collected money to help send the body of a young boy – Mohammad Jabbar Ansari — back to his home in Jharkhand.

Ansari, an 18-year-old migrant labour, landed in Coimbatore and started working in a garment factory there. Last week he became unconscious and was rushed to a private hospital and later moved to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where he died.

His brother Jubair arrived on Sunday and was keen to take Ansari’s body home for the funeral. He made enquiries and was told that it will cost him Rs.1.5 lakh to transport the body as the distance between Coimbatore and Jharkhand was more than 2,300 kilometres. Unfortunately, Jubair could not raise this amount.

Sharing details, C. Abdul Khader, the President of Tiruppur District Fish Sellers Association said: “Seeing Jubair struggle, a friend whose relative was admitted in the hospital, informed us. We sent our members to verify his claim and then decided to help him.”

The Association arranged an ambulance for Rs.85,000 and an appeal was made to the members and others. “To our surprise, fish traders and friends immediately transferred Rs 50,000 through a payment app. Besides, Taqwa Trust, a social service organisation, donated Rs 35,000,” Khader informed.

Ansari left with his brother’s body on Sunday and arrived on Tuesday night. Later, he was buried and his family expressed their gratitude to the fish traders for their noble gesture.

Ansari as per the official of Health Department was suffering from diabetes and due to lack of oxygen his brain was damaged leading to his death last Saturday.
