Honest Agra auto driver returns bag with gold and Rs.75,000 cash to the owner

An autorickshaw at Agra Cantt railway station returned a trolley bag which had gold and cash to its rightful owner making one believe in goodness of human beings

Every now and then, there is an incident that reiterates one’s faith in the goodness of human beings. Recently, an autorickshaw did this when he returned a trolley bag which had gold and was filled with cash to its owner who had forgotten it at the Agra Cantt Railway gate, according to police.

Vinod Yadav, an autorickshaw driver, happened to spot this bag and he, instead of falling to the temptation of keeping it, promptly handed it over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) of the station.

The contents of the trolley bag included a pair of gold bangles, a ring, a pair of anklets, and Rs.75,000 in cash and also clothes, informed a GRP official.

Sushil Kumar, Sub-Inspector of GRP at the Agra Cantt Police Station providing details said: "Vinod Yadav found the trolley bag unattended outside the gate of the Agra Cantt Railway Station and handed it over to the GRP.”

Going through the bag, the police were able to find a contact number through which they managed to trace him and asked him to collect his belongings. The owner was Biri Singh, a resident of the Hathras district, who had arrived in Agra from Bhopal.

Kumar said: "We called the relatives of Biri Singh, who then contacted him. We asked Biri Singh to collect the bag from the GRP police station premises. After completing the procedure, we handed over the bag to him. He was quite happy and thanked us and the driver as he got the trolley bag and valuables items safely.”

Yadav, who has been plying his vehicle from the station for the past many years, said that it was his duty to return the bag. “I felt very good after returning the trolley bag as it was my duty to hand over the unattended bag to the real owner. In the past as well, passengers have left their belongings, but rickshaw drivers have returned them safely.”

Thanking his good luck, Biri Singh, the owner of the trolley bag, expressed his disbelief at getting the bag back. "I can't believe that I have got my bag back safely with all my valuables and cash as well. Nothing was missing from the bag. I appreciate the efforts of the autorickshaw driver and GRP.”
