From Ashoka to Bhagat Singh, replicas of Indian heroes made from scrap material to adorn Delhi park

<strong>To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence and celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will place replicas of 11 heroes of the freedom movement at Shaheedi Park located at the Capital’s ITO.</strong></p>
<p>
The civic body intends to develop the park on the lines of Waste to Wonder Park and Bharat Darshan Park and it will be based on the concept of waste to art.</p>
<p>
The park spread over 4.5 acres will house these 11 replicas made from scrap material available at various SDMC stores. The replicas will include that of Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Ashoka, Porus, Samudragupta Vikramaditya, Chanakya, Chandragupta Maurya, Rajguru, and Sukhdev among others.</p>
<p>
Sculptures depicting historical incidents including the Battle of Haldighati, First War of Independence of 1857, Home Rule Movement, Simon Commission, Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, Kakori Conspiracy and others too will be kept in the park. There will also be three galleries of Tribes Revolt, Mahatma Gandhi and Paramvir Chakra recipient.</p>
<p>
The objective is to spread awareness about the country’s history and the struggle and sacrifice of the freedom fighters.</p>
<p>
To be developed at a cost of Rs 29.29 crore, the park will have a food court for the visitors also.</p>

<strong>Dinosaurs at Sarai Kale Khan Park</strong></p>
<p>
Plans are also afoot to build replicas of 15 dinosaurs from scrap material and place them at the Sarai Kale Khan park, that at present houses replicas of the Wonders of the world.</p>
<p>
The creatures whose replicas will be placed include Brontosaurus, Coelophysis, Velociraptor, Prenocephale, Ankylosaurus, Taurus, Rajasaurus, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Diplodocus, Amargasaurus, Stegosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus.</p>

This park which has an area of seven acres at present showcases replicas of Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pyramids of Giza, Colosseum, Statue of Liberty, and Christ the Redeemer, all of which are made from waste.</p>
<p>
In its first year itself, the park was able to collect a revenue of 900 lakh through sale of tickets.</p>
