A 25-year-old elephant got stuck in a swamp at Gudalur in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris and as it struggled to get out, it only kept sinking deeper because of its heavy weight. However, the forest department staff rose to the occasion and used a rope to help it come out while cheering the animal with words of encouragement. This appears to have lifted the elephant’s morale and he put in a greater effort while holding on to the rope with his trunk.

The video shows the exhausted elephant collapsing as it comes out of the swamp, but then gets up and walks away into the forest as the rescuers cheer him on.
Supriya Sahu, the Additional Chief Secretary of Environment Climate Change & Forests, Tamil Nadu, who is also the monitoring officer for Nilgiris, shared the video clip.
