Doordarshan to air docu-drama series on India’s freedom struggle in local languages from Aug 14

Going through a makeover the country’s national broadcaster, Doordarshan is undergoing a major revamp based on the theme of “Naye Bharat Ka Naya Doordarshan”. Fulfilling its mandate as a public service broadcaster on the historic occasion of 75th year of India’s Independence, DD is soon slated to air a mega historical show titled “Swaraj – Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha".</p>

To go on air on August 14 in Hindi on DD National, “Swaraj – Bharat…” will be subsequently beamed in several regional languages on the regional DD networks.</p>
<p>
With aim of making the show accessible widely to the people, the audio version of the show will be broadcast on All India Radio.</p>
<p>
The 75-episode mega show is a historical docu-drama series which will showcase the glorious history of India’s freedom struggle from the 15th Century onwards. It will highlight several aspects of Indian history while featuring the lives and sacrifices of lesser-known heroes.</p>
<p>
Manoj Joshi, known for his realistic emoting skills and engaging voice will play the role of a sutradhar or narrator.</p>
<p>
As a build-up to the show, the promo of the show was launched at an event organized at Akashvani Bhawan, New Delhi, by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur.</p>
<p>
Thakur during the event said: “The promo is not only a glimpse of what was envisioned during the freedom struggle but it is also a glimpse of what will be the New Doordarshan of New India.” He also emphasized that the telecast of the show in 10 languages will amplify its accessibility for all.</p>
<p>
Apurva Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of I&B pointed out that it “is a matter of great joy that through the serial youth will come to know about the contribution of people who made sacrifices in the freedom struggle.”</p>
<p>
Among others who were present during the launch were, Member, Swaraj Advisory Committee, Jawahar Lal Kaul, CEO, Prasar Bharati & Director-General, Doordarshan, Mayank Kumar Agrawal, DG AIR D.P.S Negi, and other dignitaries.</p>
