Devon offers perfect haven for solitude seekers with deep pockets

Those wishing complete peace and quiet here is a deal for them, but only if they can afford it.

Away from the bustling crowd of the metros with bare minimum human contact, there is an off-the-grid cottage at Devon, England. As per a report in Metro, the cottage located next to a sea-shore in England southwest country is going for £550,000 or Rs5,56,33,378.

The two-bedroom cottage covers an interior space of 1,345 square feet – most of which is on the ground floor with a large loft room above.

The cottage has no Internet or electricity connection available. Water is available through a rainwater harvesting system. There is another alternative for water supply as one can collect it from a spring-fed well in front of the cottage. There are multi-fuel burners in the reception rooms to provide heating while the kitchen has a gas cooker and lamps powered by LPG gas containers.

Situated at the rear portion of the house are two stone-build store rooms and an outdoor sawdust toilet. Also for those who like greenery, there is also a wildflower garden.

The cottage is located right above the National Trust owned Mansands beach.

In the past, the cottage was a home point for the coastguard and forms a part of a set of three properties that was built by the prisoners of Napoleonic war in the early 19th Century.

The coastguard used the cottage to keep a check on tobacco smugglers, up until the 1950s.
