Colourful e-autos will be rolled out soon in the Capital

Delhi is all set to see a riot of colours as thousands of new electric autorickshaws, in bright colours, will start plying on the Capital roads in the coming months.

With the objective of achieving the national goal of switching from diesel and petrol to electric vehicles to cut down on pollution, hundreds of e-buses and autos will start running, according to Delhi Government,

To make them more easily identifiable, the e-auto rickshaws in lilac colour will have women drivers and blue will be the colour in case of those being driven by men.

The State Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot handed over the first set of Letters of Intent (LOIs) to the first 20 people, including 10 women, who have been granted permits for driving e-auto rickshaws. This will ensure last mile connectivity while reducing pollution and also provide a strong presence of women in the public transport system.

From nearly 20,000 applicants through computerised draw, names of 2,855 men and 743 women were selected for e-auto rickshaw permits. Those successful will receive LOI and will need to purchase an e-autorickshaw and apply for registration within 45 days.

Further, a number of e-buses too will be procured, of which two have already reached Delhi.
