Delhi gets four new waterfalls in Asola Bhati Mines

As a Deepavali gift to the people of Delhi, the Lt. Governor of the Capital, V.K. Saxena inaugurated four artificial waterfalls at Neeli Jheel located in Asola Bhati Mines on Thursday.

These four waterfalls will provide the Delhiites a unique and delightful experience – something they never imagined. Besides these four waterfalls, at least 10 floating fountains will also come up in the same place.

The attractions will make the little-known destination known to Delhi people, including nature lovers, tourists, students, wildlife enthusiasts, and environmentalists.

The LG gave the ideas of waterfalls and fountains during his earlier visits to the Asola Bhati Mines which is being developed by the Territorial Army in close coordination with the Department of Environment and Forest as an eco-tourism hotspot.

The four waterfalls have been created by pumping up the water from the lake to 100 feet high rocky ledges from where it is allowed to flow back to the lake providing beautiful scenic views and also support greater saturation of dissolved oxygen and facilitate growth of flora and fauna in the stagnant water body.

The Jheel has water through the year and a huge quantity of rainwater is being diverted to it from neighbouring areas.

In his earlier visit, the LG had directed the officials to make arrangements for a cafeteria and public toilets using all eco-friendly material so as to avoid any harm to the environment. He also told the officials to ensure that no plastic is allowed inside the forest area.

In keeping with the concept of eco-tourism, Saxena also directed deployment of e-vehicles/electric feeder buses for the visitors coming to the Neeli Jheel.
