Giving inclusivity a further push for the specially-abled, the renowned Presidency College in Chennai is all set to commence a Master’s degree course for deaf students exclusively.
This institution is already offering B.Com and Bachelor in Computer Application) courses for students who have hearing impairment.
For the PG course students can apply from September 16 to 23 till 5 p.m.
Sharing details about the introduction of the PG course which was a longstanding demand, R. Raman the Principal of Presidency College said: “Since we offer a B.Com course for deaf students, there were demands to start M.Com as well. Subsequently, we approached the State government and got the sanction.”
The PG course will offer 40-50 seats and based on the demand in future the number of seats will be increased. At present the college has 60 seats for the B.Com course run exclusively for deaf students.
The college will recruit more faculty members who are adept in sign language.
To help these specially-abled students to stay in the campus, an exclusive hostel for them too is being built.
Presidency College which is number three in the National Institutional Ranking Framework hopes to improve its position by getting more points in the ‘inclusivity and outreach among students’ category.
