Chandigarh introduces colouring books to engage children in cleanliness drive

<p>
In a bid to teach children about keeping the place they live in clean, a creative approach has been adopted by Chandigarh. To make them aware about Mission Swachh Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation has released a novel colouring book titled “Swachhata Ke Rang” on cleanliness.</p>
<p>
The 20-page book was released by Dharam Pal, the Union Territory Adviser.</p>

Talking about the colouring book, the Adviser said it has cartoons with messages which deal with solid waste management and general cleanliness. It also tackles the issue of segregation of waste at source.</p>

The cartoons in the book have been designed so that they educate school going children about different aspects of Swachh Bharat Mission. It has attractive taglines like ‘Do your Bit, do not Spit’, ‘Make your planet fantastic, stop the use of plastic’, etc.</p>

Pal expected that this initiative of the Municipal Corporation will help to take Mission Swachh Chandigarh one step further towards making Swachh Bharat a movement of the people.</p>

Further, the Adviser asked the Secretary, Education, Chandigarh to chalk out a policy to introduce this book in school syllabus thereby making them engage with the Swachh Bharat Mission in a different way. He said participation of various sections and segments of the society was necessary to make the cleanliness mission a success and through these colouring books children can be engaged in the mission.</p>
