Buddhist scholars gathered at Greater Noida, close to the Indian capital city of Delhi to celebrate the Abhidhamma Day–an auspicious day in the Buddhist calendar when Gautama Buddha descended from heaven after teaching the Abhidhamma to his mother.
India has been promoting and preserving Buddhist heritage across the country in partnership with Buddhism practicing countries like Japan, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Nepal and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Myanmar student studying at the Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Ven Ananda, thanked India for preserving Buddhist holy places.
In a video he said: “The promotion and presevation of Buddhist holy places is very important and lots of initiatives have been taken by the Government of India under the able leadership of Narendra Modi. I am confident that preserving the holy places of Buddhism will bring harmony to the whole world”.
Monks from India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, ambassadors of various countries will take part in the Abhidhamma Divas celebrations at GBU.
