Besides guarding the Indian borders, the Border Security Force personnel also ensure that there is no smuggling of goods, narcotics and also wildlife, including exotic birds and animals. Thus keeping a constant vigil, on September 3 (Friday), the BSF personnel rescued three white peacocks.

These birds were rescued in Nadia district of West Bengal while they were being smuggled into India from Bangladesh, according to an officer of the paramilitary force.

Sharing details, the officer revealed that during patrolling near Burnpur-Matiari border outpost early on Friday, BSF personnel spotted two men hiding in the woods close to the international border. The patrol had been extra careful as it had received specific information according to a tweet posted by BSF.

When the alleged Bangladeshi smugglers were challenged, they dropped two bags and fled the spot. On opening the two bags, the BSF personnel found two albino peacocks in them, the officer said. After feeding these two birds, the BSF personnel handed them over to the Forest Department.
