“Another braveheart following the Determination+Ingenuity+Patience=Success' formula. I cheer his sticking to the arts, despite pressure to enter a more lucrative profession. I plan to commission a portrait by sending him a photo,” the Mahindra Group chairman tweeted, and added the hashtag “Monday Motivation”.

Mr Mahindra came to know about the artist M Surendhar, from an article in the Indian Express newspaper.

Sitting in a corner in Chennai's Pondy Bazaar, Surendhar, the son of a poor labourer, has been drawing portraits for about two weeks. It usually takes him 10 minutes for a black and white portrait and about 20 minutes for a coloured one. This suits customers as meanwhile they can finish their shopping.

He uses the money he makes from his portraits to pay for his studies and support his family.

Surendhar has sketched portraits of superstar Rajinikanth and Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson for illustration.

Surendhar charges from Rs 150 to Rs 1,000 from his customers, depending on the size and colours used.

However, it remains to be seen how much Anand Mahindra offers him as the billionaire is known for his generosity!
