Kanta Prasad, the man who shot to fame overnight, thanks to a video shot by a YouTuber which went viral, attempted suicide and has been admitted to the Capital’s Safdarjung Hospital.
The video which made him famous was on his small and humble eatery in Malviya Nagar.
The incident of Baba ka Dhaba owner Kanta Prasad attempting suicide happened on June17 and he was rushed to the hospital at night. As per Delhi Police, they received information from Safdarjung Hospital around 11.15 p.m. that Kanta Prasad, aged 81 years, was admitted to the hospital.
Prasad had consumed alcohol and sleeping pills and the hospital said in its report that he was unconscious. His son Karan’s statement said that his father had taken alcohol and sleeping pills. The police have launched a further probe.
Shooting to fame
In 2020, Prasad and his wife became famous overnight after YouTuber Gaurav Wasan shot a video of the eatery and appealed to his followers and others to help the couple who were struggling to earn a livelihood.
With the video being shared hundreds and thousands times on the social media it garnered a lot of attention of ordinary as well as several celebrities. Many came forwarded and appealed to the Delhi residents to help Prasad and his wife. Following this, people lined up at the dhaba and it became a hit instantly.
Courting controversy
Later, however, a controversy erupted when it was reported that a row had broken out between Wasan and Prasad over the transfer of funds. These funds had come from several people from across the country. This was denied by Wasan. Denying all the allegations he told India Today that they are "baseless, false and negative".
“People are trying to defame me by putting false allegations against me. There have been rumours and reports that I received an amount of Rs 25 lakh in my account, which is not true because I have given all my bank statements and transferred all the money that I received to Baba. And the allegations against me of taking Rs 25 lakh are also false. I don't know who is putting all this information in his head and telling him that I received Rs 25 lakh,” informed Wasan.
Meanwhile, Prasad opened a restaurant with the huge funds he received. This was closed in 2021 and the husband and wife returned to their Malviya Nagar eatery.
Now recently, Wasan posted on social media the video of the reconciliation that had taken place between him and Prasad, in which the latter denied calling him names.
